Many people knew Bernice’s passion for competition, which she demonstrated on many occasions over the past few decades. She also demonstrated the same passion and commitment to the Greater New Orleans Senior Olympics organization which she joined in her 50’s. Over the past 30 years she has held numerous records and won over a hundred medals in Track and Field and Weightlifting events. In 2013 she received the Peoples Health Champion Award which was presented to her during a Saints game in the Louisiana Super Dome.
In addition to her athletic prowess, she volunteered countless hours to the organization that is now know as the Greater New Orleans Senior Games. She provided leadership while serving as Treasure, and past president on the Executive Board of Directors. Bernice played an instrumental role in securing agreements with several municipal entities to provide funding which is used to offset many of the expenses incurred to host the events each year.
In short, Bernice will be missed on many levels. We will certainly miss her enthusiasm and commitment to making Senior’s lives more fulfilling, her drive to move our organization forward and the passion that she demonstrated for our competitors.
We extend our condolences to her husband Herbert, daughter Patti Bordelon Bruno, sons David Bordelon and Jimmy Bordelon, and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
